PROJECT
To create photographic images of plants without employing cameras, by revisiting old techniques of development and fixing
PUBLIC
This methodology was experimented in the Botanical Garden of the University of Granada, Spain, with
young learners with weak learning results, participating in a training mobility from 16 to 20 October 2019 : students from the high school Joao de Deus of Faro, Portugal and young learners from the Associazione Acquamarina, Trieste, Italy
European teachers in their peer-to-peer training mobility foreseeing this joint experimentation, during the same period
This methodology has also been implemented with other audiences among whom high school students of Cortina d’Ampezzo and Trieste, Italy
KEY COMPETENCES
Communication in the mother tongue
Scientific and mathematical competences
Social competences and citizenship
Humanist culture and expression of sensitivity
OBJECTIVES
To employ the playful character of the activity to
encourage moments of communication and exchange in the group
arouse interest in and scientific curiosity for the plants
comprehend, memorize, reproduce the experimental mechanism of the realization of a photogram ; renew the knowledges in chemistry and physics necessary to carry out the experience
be aware of the morphology of the plants and their expressive features : transform natural element into works of art.
GARDENS EXPLORED
The Botanical Garden of the University of Granada
MATERIALS
Collection of previously dried plants : leaves, branches, twigs, flowers picked up from the ground
Trays containing products for the development and fixing of the photos (developer, fixer, water)
Photosensitive paper
DEVELOPMENT
1.Beforehand : create a personal collection of plants
2.Collective experimentation of the blackening action of the light on the photosensitive support. Plunge a tree leaf into the tray with the developer solution and lay it on sensitive paper. This simple contact allows for the creation of a negative photograph on the surface of the paper by exposing it directly in the light, without the use of a camera
3.oral presentation of the stages for the realization of the photogram (disclosure, fixing, washing)
4.produce a negative photogram individually
5.produce a positive photogram individually following the above process
EVALUATION
It takes into account the ability to :
Master the oral and written mother tongue
To use a proper vocabulary to speak about scientific processes and of botany
To be able to present your work and uphold your choices
Develop scientific and technological competences
Comprehend, reproduce orally and in writing
the role of photosensitive chemical products in the Off-camera technique
the impact and the interrelation between chemistry and physics in the creation of the images.
Develop awareness and cultural expression
To improve the creative and artistic expression ; create a personal artistic work from a tree leaf picked up in the garden
To use and enrich your baggage of creative, photographic techniques.
Develop social and civic competences
To dialogue, communicate the outcomes explaining the experiences carried out.
