PROJECT
To have high school students with poor results participating in the different phases of research and graphic studies, from the conception to the realization of a personal ’artist book’. The theme has been inspired to the Botanical Garden of Trieste and the workshops on creative writing developed there.
As a consequence of the project, the students were shortlisted to participate in the 4th International Exhibition of the Artist Book Like in a Tale, organised in Udine, Italy in 2018

To employ the playful aspect of the activity to facilitate the learning of competences

To enrich the personal repertory of creative techniques : painting, collage, binding

MATERIALS
Reference poetic texts

DEVELOPMENT
To draft texts during the workshops of ’writing in the garden’ ; to motivate the project of realization of the artist book
sketching preparatory studies. They are crucial to the creation of the prototypes of the pages of the book. The techniques employed are collage, the use of cardboard, printed and coloured paper, drawings, etc. These activities involve the learners in researches on the Artist Book and the artists who create them
writing texts inspired to the images of the books (haiku, etc…). Digitalization of the texts
printing of the prototypes on Fabriano Rosaspina paper, in limited edition, in a printing house
workshop of manual binding at the Tipoteca Italiana of Cornuda (Treviso) held by an artisan expert in artistic binding.
EXTENSION
All the artist books created were presented at the 4th International Exhibition of the Artist Book Like in a Tale, organised by the Association DARS (Donna Arte Ricerca Sperimentazione) in Udine, Italy, in 2018
EVALUATION
It takes into account the ability to :
Master communication in the oral and written mother tongue
To strengthen the ability to read, write and communicate
To present one’s own work and uphold one’s choices
Develop digital competences
To encourage the use of software advantageous to the creation of texts
Express personal sensibility and enrich artistic culture
To be aware of the scope of the artist book through the works of artists
To develop one’s ability of expression by improving the use of materials and techniques such as painting, drawing, collage… and enrich them by learning the artistry of manual binding
To be able to maintain unity and coherence between the object of the work and its images as well between the aim of the project and its realization
The evaluation also takes into account the impact of each work on the public of the exhibition
Develop social and civic competences
To be able to participate in a group work , share ideas and proposals
To cooperate with the group and respect the subdivision of tasks
To check the individual and collective operational dynamics during the different phases of the activities
Learning to learn
To enhance the debate on the outcomes and the ability to self-evaluation
To level of awareness achieved by each learner at the end of the activities
